If you love words, if you want to expand your vocabulary, if you need to build your communications skills— Masterful Words is for you!
It offers a valuable addition to any reference library. • Teaches the meaning, derivation, and correct context for wonderful, little-used words in the English language. • Boosts learning by showing why words mean what they do. • Illustrates how word parts, such as prefixes and suffixes, can determine meanings. • Explains the relationship between old words, usually Latin or Greek, and their modern English derivatives. • Provides an easy-to-use alphabetical listing. • Gives periodic quizzes that deeply impress learning.
To grasp an idea or understand a concept it is necessary to know the words involved. A sound vocabulary is an invaluable asset, whether one is reading a text or listening to a lecture. When speaking or writing, this book will help you avoid being dull, uncertain, hesitant, or “at a loss for words.” An extensive knowledge of words awakens the imagination, provides for creativity, adds life, color, and interest to what is said or written, and greatly enhances receptiveness on the part of listeners or readers. In an age of the growing importance of good communication, now is the time to be prepared.
