The Other Side of War

By Herbert M. Youngdahl

"During WWII Herbert M. Youngdahl was an Infantry Platoon Sergeant in the 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, Iowa National Guard. He served with the Division throughout the African Campaign, up to the boot of Italy, and north of Rome. The Division set the WWII record of over 500 days in battle and Youngdahl served most of that time with the Division.

"In his heartfelt book, Youndahl shares many real life experiences of his platoon. This is not a gory dissertation but an insider's view of what our troops went through in far away places.

After the War, Youndahl attended San Francisco State University, where he earned a B.A. in Social Science, an M.A. in Education of Exceptional Children, and Credentials in General Social Science, the Physically Handicapped, and Education of the Visually Impaired. He taught in the San Francisco Unified School District for fifteen years. He and Doretta livein the lovely coastal town of Pacifica, where they are active in community service."
